THE MAPLETHORPES

The Maplethorpes crossed paths with the Abbs when Frances Ann Maplethorpe Wick Stephen (1911-2003) married James Long Abbs Forster (1911-1979) in 1932 at Christ Church, Jarrow,  Co. Durham, England.  The Maplethorpes are an old Lincolnshire family, with possible 16th century roots in Nottinghamshire.  I have only included the documented Lincolnshire relationships on this website, as the Nottingham pedigree, while widely reported on many internet family trees, appears conjectural.  I would welcome any solid research that firmly connects the Lincolnshire Maplethorpes to the Nottingham Maplethorpes.  Eventually, the Lincolnshire Maplethorpes emigrated to other parts of England, Canada and the United States.  In this website I have documented some of the Maplethorpe family of Michigan (U.S.); however, I am also aware of pockets of Maplethorpes on the West Coast of the United States and in Iowa whom I have not yet connected to my main body of research.  If you are researching the Maplethorpes of the West Coast or Iowa and can provide research links to my researched lines, I would be happy to hear from you (you may click on my name at the bottom of this page to send me an email).

It is good practice to do so, and it might help direct other researchers to this site.   I encourage you to email me (by clicking on my name at the bottom of this page) with any additional information, corrections or questions that you might have. Images of referenced persons and places are particularly welcome. Again, please note that this website does not include all the information that I have compiled; so, if you are interested in particular people please email me to request further information.
