William Windham was born in 1647.1 He married Katherine Ashe in 1669.2 On 16 November 1670, William Windham leased the Bush Close and the Hill Close at Norfolk, England, to William Abbs.3 On 18 September 1671, William Windham leased two pieces of land of sx acres and three acres, respectively at Runton, Norfolk, England, to Robert Feazer.4 On 9 November 1671, William Windham leased the 2 great closes and Old Hall yard at Sustead, Norfolk, England, to Peter Abbs.5 On 20 November 1676, William Windham leased a property known as the Clovergrass Close with two adjacent parcels at Metton, Norfolk, England, to Nicholas Abbs for seven years ending Michaelmas 1678.6 On circa 1682, William Windham granted 10 parcels containing 30 acres and 1/2 rood including 7 parcels in Aylmerton field at Aylmerton, Norfolk, England, to Peter Abbs These were the parcels previously leased by Peter's brother, Richard Abbs, until Richard defaulted on his rents.7 William Windham died in 1689.8 The Windham family, holders of the Felbrigg Estate for most of the 17th and 18th centuries, had significant interactions with the Abbs family, who were frequent and favored tenants of arable land on the estate. I have many records of land transactions involving Abbs family members and the Windhams. Please inquire for more information.
